January has been a busy month for teen civic leaders in GenerationNation's Youth Voice program. They met new North Carolina governor Pat McCrory, had a policy dialogue with CMS Superintendent Heath Morrison, and joined 21 CMS task forces.
The student-driven youth council discusses school and community issues, and conducts meetings with local leaders to increase youth engagement in policy and decision making. The teens use student news and social media to report on civic events, including school issues, the DNC and local government policies and meetings and conduct weekly twitter chats open to all students.
Students are working to expand as a communitywide youth council advising city, county and school officials. The program is non-partisan and not issue-driven.
All teens who are interested in government, leadership, news media and civic issues are invited to join Youth Voice. To learn more, visit Youth Voice on the web and Facebook, or contact GenerationNation.
